Sasha Bennett, Gymnastics Instructor

Sasha has been teaching gymnastics at The Dance Factory for more than 8 years and brings here experience in competitive gymnastics to her students. Sasha trained and competed at the West Virginia Training Center for gymnastics in Morgantown, WV. While competing in gymnastics, her specialties were in floor exhibition and balance beam. Sasha also trained in ballet, jazz and modern dance at The Dance Factory and was a member of the Augusta Youth Ballet Company. She is the proud mother of daughter, Socia, age 4, one of TDF tiny tumblers.

Kelci Friend, Dance Instructor

Kelci graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Special Education. While in college, Kelci danced extensively under the direction of Nina Scatteregia, Michael Garber and Gretchen Hurd.  She was also a part of the West Virginia Wesleyan College Dance Team for four years and was co-captain and captain for two of those years.  Kelci performed countless times for various Wesleyan events and dance productions and attended the West Virginia Dance Festival, where she took many classes and performed.

However, Kelci’s dance experience started long before college. At age seven, she began taking dance at Annabelle Timm’s School of Ballet with Annabelle Timms and Cindy Pulice. She took ballet, tap and jazz under their direction until she graduated from high school. She attended the West Virginia Dance Festival, took classes and performed with her studio there, as well. She was a part of the Bridgeport Middle School Dance Team for all three years, was a twirler for the Bridgeport High School Band for all four years and was a part of the first dance team at Bridgeport High School her senior year.  With the band, Kelci performed at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta Georgia, in New York City, and at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida. She, with her teammates, won many competitions and accolades during her middle and high school years.  Kelci utilized her dance training in the theatre, as well. She was a part of Harrison County Summer Theatre every summer from second grade to when she was a senior in high school, with many dance centered roles in shows such as “The Music Man,” “The Wizard of OZ,” and “Babes in Arms,” to name a few.  Kelci also portrayed Lady Thiang, the head wife, in “The King and I.” Kelci has portrayed Frenchie in “Grease,” was a part of the ensemble for “Les Miserables,” and was the lead dancer/dance captain in “Guys and Dolls.”

Kelci is currently employed with the Upshur County Board of Education as a special education teacher. She has choreographed for over ten school productions between Bridgeport High School and Buckhannon-Upshur High School. Some of the shows include “High School Musical,” “The Lion King,” “The Adams Family,” “Happy Days the Musical,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” and “Leader of the Pack.” She was the twirling advisor and choreographer for the Bridgeport High School Band for three years and is now the choreographer for the Buckhannon-Upshur Band twirlers.  She also taught Dance Line Prep at In Step School of Dance in Clarksburg, West Virginia for two years.

Kelci is very excited to be teaching at the Dance Factory this year! She is ready to work with some fantastic dancers and watch them grow in their art!

Amy Livesay, Dance Instructor

 Amy trained at The Dance Factory and was a member of the August Youth Ballet Company.  While training at TDF, Amy attended the Governor's School for the Arts and performed at the West Virginia State Dance Festival with the AYBC.  Amy earned her BFA in Dance from Radford University in Virginia in 2015.   While studyig at Radford, Amy had the opportunity to further her studies in dance through an intensive in Lavorno, Italy.   She has perfomred in the American College Dance Festival and also in NYC with the Radford dance ensemble.  Amy began teaching at The Dance Factory in September, 2016 to share her passion for dance with her students.

Monica Phillips, Dance Instructor

Monica Ammons Phillips joined the Dance Factory and Gym Zone team in January 2015. She currently teaches creative dance, tiny tappers, level 1 ballet, jazz and tap, clogging, baton, pom, tumble tots, kinder gym, dance and roll and bronze level gymnastics.  Phillips began her dance training in 1978 at the Carolyn Jackson Dance Studio and the Joy of Dance Studio in Kingwood. She was certified to teach in 1986, through Dance Educators of America. She owned and directed Headliners Dance Studio from 1990-1996 in Kingwood and Cheat Lake.  Nationally, she’s taught at the Judith Lee Johnson Studio, St. Petersburg, FL, The Little Gym, Westminster, CO and at the Preston Community Arts Center in Kingwood.  Phillips won a Showstoppers National Competition in 1995, with a clogging trio. Her students have won many local, regional and national awards for dance, singing, twirling and acrobatics.  Continuing education includes, 1990 Dance Masters of America’s teacher training program, Kent State, and 1991-1996 at Music Works seminars in Pittsburg, PA, 1992-94 National Clog Association seminars in Youngstown, OH.  Monica attended the 2015 Dance Teacher Web LIVE conference in CT where she  took took master classes with nationally known dance educators and master teachers.   She also earned certification in the DTU Level I Teacher Training from Dance Teacher University & University of Nevada.  Phillips lives in Buckhannon with her husband Greg, sons Dane and Rhett and step sons, Anthony and Hank. Rhett is a student at the Dance Factory, training in ballet and clogging.

Angela Post, Office Administrator - Dance Studio, Dance Lessons in Buckhannon, WV

Angela Post, Office Administrator & Ballet Instructor

Angela graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College where she was a dance minor and costume design major.  While being an integral part of the office staff of The Dance Factory, Angela has also done costuming for the AYBC.  Angela has also taught junior ballet tecnique and pre-pointe classes.   This season she will teach junior ballet and teen ballet technique.

Lauren Wood, Dance Instructor

Lauren Wood, originally from South Charleston, WV, began studying ballet with the Academy of Arts at January’s in Charleston. She continued training as a member of the River City Youth Ballet Ensemble, under the direction of Michelle Raider. She has attended summer intensives with BalletMet, Columbus and with the Central
Pennsylvania Youth Ballet.

Lauren graduated from WV Wesleyan College in 2009 with a B.A. in Psychology.  After serving one year with Shelterwood, a Christian therapeutic boarding school in MO, Lauren returned to WV and taught ballet for the River City School of Dance, the Macholah Ballet in Hurricane, WV, and for the French Art Colony in Gallipolis, OH. She has attended two instructors’ workshops and one praise/worship dance workshop with Ballet Magnificat! in Jackson, Mississippi.

Lauren married Thomas in 2013, after which, they served two years at Shelterwood before spending five months at New Hope Uganda, where Lauren taught beginning ballet for a class of Ugandan and American students. The Wood family came back to Buckhannon in 2016 and are enjoying raising two young daughters.

Lauren enjoys sharing the art of ballet with students, as she believes the arts reinforce life lessons and that ballet provides a foundation for creative expression through movement.
